What to Expect During a Bio Facial
The Bio-Facial is an outpatient procedure that usually takes no more than 30 minutes or so, allowing you to return to your normal activities quickly, with very little downtime.
Before the facial begins, a small sample of the patient’s blood is drawn and processed in a centrifuge. What this does, is spin it at high speed to separate the red blood cells from the plasma (which contains the white blood cells, or platelets). This platelet-rich plasma, or PRP for short, contains a host of healing properties like growth factors, proteins, and cytokines that work with your body to stimulate the natural healing process.
The Bio-Facial then starts with a process called microneedling, which is where we use a small instrument, called a derma roller, to make little tiny pricks on the top layer of the skin. This allows for fast absorption of the PRP, which is spread all over the face, giving a huge boost in restorative components and nutrients to the skin.
And that’s it! The patient is all done, and everything from here on out will be under the surface of the skin.
